Really disappointing. Had heard this place was the place to go to for a great meal. Well maybe if you dont mind no service and over an hour wait for your meal. Yes it was New Years eve but the place was only half full by the time we sat and waited for the delight we were supposed to indulge in. No prawn crackers ,no service. Had to approach the bar for my own drink. Sorry wont be back. Get it together guys it COULD be a great little restaurant. No service what so ever.
I wish I had read these reviews before my visit there - I had the Pad Thai with chicken and shrimp which was really disappointing - other patrons have also reviewed that the flavouring was not Thai at all but seemed more like they had just used oyster sauce. We also ordered an entree of crispy chicken on crispy noodles - the chicken was nice but the noodles were definitely rancid. When I commented about this to the waitress she just responded that they had been cooked ahead of time - my exact point, they were old. There was no apology or offer to replace with something edible. The couple other dishes we had were fried rice and mongolian sizzling beef which were quite tasty but didn't really make up for the other two failed dishes.In agreement with other reviews: dishes here are hit and miss, service was average and waiting times quite long if busy.
Tuesday night with 3 dishes for takeaway to be ready in 20 minutes. Go in at 20 minutes and asked to come back in 5 minutes. Come back in after another 5 minutes and asked to come back in another 5 minutes. 43 minutes for takeaways for 1 person isn't great. It was unexpectedly busy for a Tuesday night for them so say that upfront and give people to choice to wait 3/4 of an hour or not. Food was okay to good but a complimentary dish and an apology for the wait would have been appropriate.
Red Orchid is an excellent Thai based restaurant. Take Away or eatin, the food is consistently good - I have eaten here many times.The Lunch specials are particularly good value.The decor is a bit cliche and tired, and there is sometimes a loud and irritating machine noise, I think it must be from the exhaust fans in the kitchen, or noisy refrigeration.As a good economic and quality food outlet however, I would happily recommend.Only open for Lunch or Dinner, with a break during the afternoon, so check first.
